So my family has never been much interested in sports- that is watching them, I mean. My brother Aaron liked to watch soccer when he was in High School and my dad occasionally would put on a Saturday game. But no one really followed teams or went into mourning when a certain Ohio team loses… and then, along came Joe.
Seven year old Joe would literally spend all day glued to the TV watching football if Mom let him. He cries over it, begs Mom to Tivo particular games so he watch them later (he sometimes catches up with his games over breakfast- no kidding) He understands the game, knows players names, and remembers the scores. Joe struggles in a lot of areas of school, but football? He is on it.
So by the time Cohen and I had made it over to my parents’ house last night, Dad was threatening things like “Joe, if you ask me one more time when the Super Bowl starts, you might not be able to watch it!” It was 4p and apparently Joe hadn’t stopped asking (since he woke up) ‘how soon’ the festivities would start.
Joe was rooting for the “teewolls” (Steelers) and Josh, who really doesn’t give a hoot but didn’t want to miss out on the fun and an opportunity to challenge his older brother, decided to root for the “car-DEE-nolls”. Dad upped the competitive spirit by painting their faces… This pic is from a phone because I left my camera at home (I didn’t realize there would be face painting):
Anyway, I watched the half-time show and that was about it. Cohen wanted to take a bath during the game, so Mom and I chatted while he splash in the tub. And then the boys all danced around to the halftime show. Cohen was raising his hands in the air like he was at church. Its going to be a sad day when he realizes all music isn’t praising Jesus. Right now, he worships to cartoons and commercials – anything with a beat.
After halftime, we came home and I stayed up finishing some work and was so happy to see that the Steelers won for Joe. I bet he was doing his little happy dance all over the house.
Sometime I am going to post video of the three of them dancing to the Toby Mac special my parents taped. HYSTERICAL.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you all to say some prayers for me today. In the afternoon I have some things going on and I just really want to sense a connectedness to God in the midst of it. Can you just pray for His closeness to be something I can experience today?
And also (and much less importantly) Dad and I are going to Columbus today to look for some appliances for me. I am not sure I ever mentioned this, but my stove totally bit the dust about 2 months ago (the oven and the range) and then a couple of weeks ago the washer/dryer combo my housemate brought with her did the same. My housemates are moving out and while its not a big deal to drag laundry around, it would be really nice not to have to deal with that when I get home from work. And the stove? I have so been missing that! A couple of weeks ago, Dad thought he had found a good deal at Lowes in my pricerange, but they sold the set before we got there. So we’ve located a scratch and dent place in Columbus and are going there this evening…Even though its not super pressing, would you all pray that we can find some decent appliances that are affordable?
Ok…a longer post tonight… (I almost have the Calvinist/free will one done)
